Dr Gama Bandawe
Chairman
Dr Gama Petulo Bandawe is a biomedical scientist and academic. He is a molecular biologist trained in medical virology and is currently a senior lecturer and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences in the Academy of Medical Sciences at the Malawi University of Science and Technology. Gama is passionate about better understanding the positive effects of CBD on cerebral malaria.
Hellen Chabunya
Secretary
Hellen is the Managing Director of M’bwabwa Farming Estates and M’bwabwa Agri-pernuership Secondary School. Over the past 12 years Hellen has worked at a senior level as a lobbyist, advocate, socio-political analyst, communications expert and in project management. Hellen is a Board Chairperson of the Coalition for Women and Girls Empowerment (CEWAG), the Secretary General for Commercial Farmers Cooperative and President of the Young Farmers Network. Helen lobbied for legislative reforms to legalize Hemp in Malawi. She brings her wealth of networks and expertise to the ICA Executive Board.
Nebert Nyirenda
Treasurer
Nebert is a Vanderbilt University graduate economist and previously held high-level public service positions in Malawi. He has worked in the Ministries of Industry and Trade and in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. Nebert has extensive hands-on knowledge in economic policy development and implementation, financial management, international development, private sectors development, industry and trade matters.
Tanya Clarke
Executive Trustee
Tanya founded Invegrow Ltd, the first company in Malawi to lobby and trial industrial hemp as a new cash crop. She is a seasoned entrepreneur having established multiple businesses in the country including Kawandama Hills Plantation - producer of Virisafe citriodiol based sanitiser sprays and sustainable charcoal - and has an educational charity operating in the Northern region. She is passionate about cannabis and its prospects for Malawi.
Dr David Mkwambisi
Executive TRUSTEE
Dr Mkwambisi is the Director at the Institute for Industrial Research and Innovation at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). David is an Associate Professor of Environmental Sustainability and holds PhD and MSc in Environment and Development from Universities of Leeds and East Anglia in the UK respectively. He is an Associate Professor of Environment and Development and an active researcher in the development discourse working with national and international organisations including World Bank, Africa Development Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, Government of Malawi, COMESA, GIZ, USAID, DFID, UNFPA, IDRC and several internationally recognised centres of excellence and higher education institutions.
Dr Albert Changaya
Executive TRUSTEE
Dr Changaya is the Chief Executive Officer for the Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (ARET). He has over 15 years of research experience in Plant Pathology, Entomology, Plant Breeding and extension experience in tobacco, tea and pigeon pea crops. Prior to his work with ARET, Albert worked as the Director of Tea Research Foundation of Central Africa, CEO of Tobacco Control Commission, Controller of Agriculture Extension and Technical Services in the Ministry of Agriculture and also spent time as the Head of Agronomy at Pyxus Agriculture.
